The district was established in 1936 under the name Kirov. In 1992, it was renamed Yunusabad. Opinions differ on the origin of the name Yunusabad. Some researchers (academic A. Muhammadjonov) believes that the name of the place is very old and was originally called "Yunusrabot". In this case, "rabot" was used to mean caravanserai (see Rabot). Those entering the city from the North had landed at this location. According to local intellectuals, the name of the place is associated with the legends about the son of sebzor businessman Yunushoji Nodirhoji (19th century, who had Gardens in Yunusabad Octepas). The area is 4.14 thousand ha, including the greened area is 1.073 thousand ha. Population 289.0 thousand people (2004). The number of streets is 441. Main main highway streets: Sharaf Rashidov, Amir Temur, Ahmad Donish, Khurshid, Ghani Mavlonov, Jahan Obidova, Colonel Khojaev of the guards. There are 50 neighborhoods. There were 3,547 enterprises and organizations in the district, and the share of small and medium-sized business entities in industrial production is 36.3 %, in construction-64.2 %, in trade and catering-50.9%. Among them, 155 joint venture activities are aimed at production and serving the population.
